Live on the Waterfront in Thunder Bay

This summer, Ontario Nature will run an interactive booth as part of the City of Thunder Bay’s Live on the Waterfront event series. The booth will include information on our current projects and other northern conservation issues, as well as interactive nature-based materials such as skull replicas, owl pellets and fur from local species. There will also be an opportunity for youth to make small crafts. For more information contact Amanda Layng at amandal@ontarionature.org or 807-286-1789.

Can you tell a monarch from a viceroy?

Join Ontario Nature and expert biologist James Kamstra on July 29, as we lead you on a hike through our Stone Road Alvar Nature Reserve to learn about Ontario’s butterfly species. You will learn how to identify common species found in the area and ways to make your own backyard more pollinator-friendly. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy closed-toe shoes, as we will be walking off trail for a portion of the event. Visit the Ontario Nature website for more information and to register online.

Thank you for helping us make a difference

We moved Ontario’s environmental agenda forward significantly last year, thanks to members and supporters like you. Our Annual Report is an excellent resource to give you a deeper understanding of Ontario Nature and what we were able to accomplish for nature in 2017/18. In it, you can learn more about our campaigns and programs, get to know our staff and volunteers, and see the impact of your generous donations. You can also learn about the exciting projects we have planned for the year ahead. Thank you for your support!

Help us protect boreal caribou

Boreal caribou are classified as provincially and nationally threatened. Science shows they need vast tracts of old evergreen forest to avoid predators, but habitat fragmentation remains a key threat to their survival in managed forests. Despite this, forestry lobbyists have sowed seeds of doubt by denying the problem exists, denying their role in creating the problem and vilifying conservation proponents. Their playbook is clear. Please take a moment to tell the Government of Canada that these myths must be dispelled, and action must be taken with provinces to plan for caribou recovery and sustainable prosperity. Your voice matters.
