Indigenous Perspectives on Protected Areas
Thank you for your interest in Indigenous Perspectives on Protected Areas, a gathering hosted by Ontario Nature, Plenty Canada, the Indigenous Environmental Studies and Sciences program at Trent University and Walpole Island Land Trust.

The gathering will bring together interested members of Indigenous communities from across Ontario and a targeted audience of government staff, conservation groups, industry leaders, academics and other interested parties.

Our objective is to set the table for long-term transformation and relationship building, in the context of protected areas and Indigenous rights, responsibilities and interests.

Event Highlights

Wednesday, October 25, 2 – 9 pm:
• Sharing of insights from a closed session for Indigenous community members (prior day and a half).
• Traditional evening feast and opportunity to meet and socialize with other participants.

Thursday, October 26, 9 am – 4 pm:
• Presentations from Indigenous speakers with experience and insight into Indigenous protected areas, reconciliation and UN Aichi Targets 11 and 18.
• Opportunities to discuss key issues and desired next steps.

Registration is $150. The traditional feast, refreshments and lunch are included in the cost of registration.

Space is limited – registration will be open until October 19, 2017 or until capacity is reached.
