Restoration and Conservation
Restoration is a key component in improving sensitive waterways like Junction Creek. By using the results obtained from ongoing research, the stewardship committee is able to determine what areas of the creek are in need of attention. Our staff, board members, and volunteers work together on these at risk areas with the long term goal of restoring both beauty and function to the Junction Creek ecosystem.
Stormwater and Freshwater Health Project 2022 – 2024
The JCSC's multi-year community action-based project raises awareness and reduces stormwater contaminants from entering local waterways.
Litter Monitoring and Clean-ups
Since 1999, thousands of volunteers have helped to remove over 84,000 kg of garbage from Junction Creek and its surrounding shorelines. We find anything from shopping carts, bicycles, furniture, appliances and even parts of cars!
Tree Planting and Shoreline Stabilization
With the help of countless volunteers, we have planted over 38,000 native trees and shrubs throughout the Junction Creek watershed with a specific focus on riparian restoration. In addition to planting seedlings and 1-3 gal sized trees and shrubs, we also plant wildflowers and other pollinator plants.
Invasive Species Removal
Invasive species are a significant threat to biodiversity as they out-compete native plant and animal species. They have a negative impact on stream health and can be easily spread through our waterways and trail system.
