The freshwater turtles of Ontario and the giant tortoises of Galapagos might seem like worlds apart, but they share similar struggles and successes. Originally from Ontario, and currently stationed at the Charles Darwin Research Station in the Galapagos Islands, Patrick Moldowan is a biologist with a keen interest in and experience with conservation research involving turtles in both regions. Join Patrick for a webinar on September 17th as he shares lessons learned along the way.

Experience Yucatán Birds and Wildlife with Ontario Nature and Quest Nature Tours

The Yucatán is, in many ways, a world unto itself: an enormous peninsula embodying many of the ecological characteristics of islands, namely the presence of endemic species — and yet what really sets this region apart is how intertwined its wildlife is with the ancient Mayan sites like Cobá, Muyil, and the staggeringly impressive Chichén Itzá.

Join us this winter to discover the storied Yucatán with a leisurely journey through various ecosystems and on largely flat terrain, with visits to both the Gulf and Caribbean Coasts.

Speak up for the Endangered Species Act

Protecting species at risk is essential for the long-term health and diversity of Ontario’s ecosystems. Yet, Ontario continues to lose more biodiversity than it conserves. Please join Ontario Nature in asking the Government of Ontario to restore the integrity of the Endangered Species Act.

Search for Reptiles and Amphibians With Us in Hamilton

Join us to learn how you can contribute to reptile and amphibian conservation through an in-person guided hike at McMaster Forest Nature Preserve. At this event, you will learn about reptile and amphibian ecology, habitat, and conservation – including two Ontario Nature community science projects. You will search for reptiles and amphibians, gain hands-on training in snake monitoring, learn how to use iNaturalist, and view printed copies of the recently published Ontario Reptile and Amphibian Atlas. This event is generously supported by the City of Hamilton City Enrichment Fund.

Remove Buckthorn With Us at Lawson Nature Reserve

Help us tackle invasive plants at Lawson Nature Reserve! Bring your friends and family to help us remove invasive plants, like common buckthorn on September 7th. You can help us remove these invasive species that are competing with native plants, while learning about Ontario Nature’s habitat restoration work with our staff and local experts.

Join Us for a Planting Event at Sydenham River Nature Reserve

We are planting native trees and shrubs – including red oak, sugar maple, ninebark, spicebush and white pine – at our Sydenham River Nature Reserve in southwestern Ontario on September 28th and 29th. Bring your friends and family to join us for the morning, afternoon or all day! Help us transform fields into what will one day grow to become Carolinian forest habitat while learning about Ontario Nature’s habitat restoration project with our staff and local experts.
