Hello ,
Welcome to the November edition of our pilot volunteer opportunity board! We are striving to match people who want to volunteer with environmental organizations that are seeking volunteers. The postings are from Ontario Nature and the 150 member groups that form our Nature Network.
You can see past posting lists on our volunteer webpage.
The volunteer newsletter is a one-year pilot project and we are seeking feedback on how it has been going. If you have any comments or suggestions, please email them to naturenetwork@ontarionature.org.
VOLUNTEER BOARD POSTINGS
Board Treasurer, Ontario Nature Board of Directors

- Duration: Officers serve 1-year terms elected annually by the Board with a max of 2 years

Our board sets Ontario Nature’s strategic direction and provides governance oversight. We are seeking a finance professional (active or retired) to join our Board of Directors in the role of Treasurer.
What characteristics are we looking for? First and foremost, someone who is committed to protecting and restoring Ontario’s native biodiversity, and who has a strong background in financial management. The ideal candidate would be a CPA with sound knowledge of nonprofit accounting and familiarity with financial best practices for a Canadian charity.
We are currently seeking to make our Board more reflective of the diversity of the Ontario population and welcome applications from all Ontarions including among Ontario's Indigenous, racialized and 2SLGBTQ+ communities, and persons with disabilities. Ontario Nature is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion, and encourages and values diverse perspectives on its board. We believe that this will help us better serve our mission across the province.
Please let us know a bit about yourself, why you are interested and what expertise you would bring. Feel free to include a copy of your CV. We would be happy to share a description of the board treasurer responsibilities with you.
Regional Councilors, Ontario Nature’s Nature Network
- Location: Two regions: Lake Ontario North and Northern Ontario
- Start: Spring 2025, expression of interest and short CV by March 1, 2025
- Duration: 2-year term
- Time Commitment: approximately 2 hours/week on average
- Contact: Lesley Rudy, lesleyr@ontarionature.org
Regional Councilors are elected by the Nature Network member groups in their region to represent them in higher-level decision making. This role is vital to helping Ontario Nature and its member groups work together to protect wild species and wild spaces. Regional Councilors ensure that the needs, concerns and successes of Nature Network groups are shared and addressed. Council facilitates collaboration and consistency between regions.
Regional Councilors will attend and chair two regional meetings and participate in four council meetings per year. Five of these six meetings are virtual and the other will be held in person within the region. Council members are eligible to serve as Nature Network Directors on Ontario Nature’s Board of Directors as decided by the council.
Candidates must be active in one or more Nature Network groups in their region. Lake Ontario North and Northern Ontario regions will hold elections in Spring 2025. Please see our Nature Network webpage and reach out to Lesley Rudy, Nature Network Organizer, for more information.
