Hello ,

Welcome to the February edition of our pilot volunteer opportunity board! We are striving to match people who want to volunteer with environmental organizations that are seeking volunteers. The postings are from Ontario Nature and the 150 member groups that form our Nature Network.

You can see past posting lists on our volunteer webpage.

The volunteer newsletter is a one-year pilot project and we are seeking feedback about how it has been going. If you have any comments or suggestions, please email them to naturenetwork@ontarionature.org.

VOLUNTEER BOARD POSTINGS

Regional Councilors, Ontario Nature’s Nature Network

  • Location: Two regions: Lake Ontario North and Northern Ontario
  • Start: Spring 2025, expression of interest and short CV by March 9, 2025
  • Duration: 2-year term
  • Time Commitment: approximately 2 hours/week on average
  • Contact: Lesley Rudy, lesleyr@ontarionature.org

Regional Councilors are elected by the Nature Network member groups in their region to represent them in high-level decision making. This role is vital to helping Ontario Nature and its member groups work together to protect wild species and wild spaces. Regional Councilors ensure that the needs, concerns and successes of Nature Network groups are shared and addressed. The council facilitates collaboration and consistency between regions.

Regional Councilors will attend and chair two regional meetings and participate in four council meetings per year. Five of these six meetings are virtual, and the other one will be held in person within the region. Council members are eligible to serve as Nature Network Directors on Ontario Nature’s Board of Directors as decided by the council.

Candidates must be active in one or more Nature Network groups in their region. Lake Ontario North and Northern Ontario regions will hold elections in Spring 2025. Lake Ontario North includes Toronto, Durham Region and Peterborough. Northern Ontario includes Manitoulin Island, North Bay, Sudbury, Sault Ste Marie and Thunder Bay (and places in between). Please see our Nature Network webpage and reach out to Lesley Rudy, Nature Network Organizer, for more information.

Director of Conservation Science (Board), Escarpment Corridor Alliance

  • Location: Collingwood, South Georgian Bay
  • Start: March 1, 2025
  • Duration: Ongoing
  • Time Commitment: 5–15 hours/month
  • Contact: Jarvis Strong, info@myescarpment.ca

The ECA is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that is elected by the members of the organization. Directors hold a fiduciary responsibility and act in the best interests of the organization. Individuals wishing to be considered for a director’s role should apply and upon consideration will be informed of the conditions for approval and membership, which must be met.

ECA is seeking an experienced conservation and/or ecology/environmental science, or geospatial planning professional to serve as a volunteer on our Board of Directors. This Director will co-lead the ECA’s new Conservation & Corridor Planning Committee alongside the Conservation Project Manager and Executive Director. The ideal candidate will have a relatable Masters or PHD and will have a personal connection to the South Georgian Bay area.
