Dear ,

Spring is in the air and it’s the perfect time to get outside, explore and make memories with loved ones. Things are buzzing here at Ontario Nature, and we hope that you’ll join us. Keep reading to see what we’re up to and how you can join in!

Expand Protected Areas

The Government of Ontario has not committed to protecting 30 percent of its lands and waters by 2030 (30×30) despite the Canadian and international commitments. Additionally, Ontario received a failing grade on progress to protect land and water compared to other jurisdictions in Canada.

Expanding protected areas is an important way to halt biodiversity loss and adapt to the effects of climate change. Ontarians overwhelmingly support (86%) the creation of more protected areas. Join us in asking the province to protect more of our lands and waters.

Atlas-3 2025 Square Bashes Registration Open

Square Bashes are multi-day events that bring breeding bird atlassers together to camp in and atlas near provincial parks, with the goal of covering coverage gaps. Thank you to Ontario Parks for generously providing free camping to Square Bash participants. We have three great events lined up this year which will be fun for atlassers of all levels of experience!

Please do not contact the parks about these events as all arrangements are made through the Atlas-3 office.

Take Action for Wetlands

Wetlands in your community and across the province are under threat. Rich in biodiversity, wetlands mitigate flooding, clean our drinking water and increase resilience to the impacts of climate change. Please consider making a gift today to help fund wetland conservation and advocate for wetland protection.

Volunteer for Nature

Did you know we send a regular newsletter with opportunities to volunteer? Sign up to help protect wild species and wild spaces across the province! Ontario Nature and our member groups benefit from passionate, dedicated and talented volunteers who generously give their time for conservation. Volunteers support events, steward nature reserves, advocate for conservation, write blogs, do community science, serve on boards, help with administration and more.

Our volunteer newsletter matches volunteers with organizations in need of volunteers. Postings are from Ontario Nature and the 150 member groups that form our Nature Network. We send emails at the beginning of the month listing virtual and in person positions from across Ontario. You can see our past volunteer postings
