We need your help with a last-minute push to retain the Current Mandate of the Province’s 36 Conservation Authorities

Dear ,

Rather than listening to tens of thousands of Ontarians – including nearly 20,000 Ontario Nature members and supporters – who requested that Schedule 6 be removed from Bill 229, the provincial government is proposing several pages of never-seen-before amendments that tighten the screws even further on Conservation Authorities.

These amendments include one that will require a Conservation Authority to issue a permit that would otherwise be prohibited by provincial law and policy, if associated with a Minister's Zoning Order! See our joint media release with Environmental Defence that went out this morning.

Today is the Standing Committee’s only day to make amendments, before reporting the bill back to the Legislature (on Monday, December 7th) for Third Reading. Please phone your MPP’s office today to protest the proposed amendments and demand that Schedule 6 be removed from the bill. Use this tool to find their contact information based on your postal code. Even if your MPP opposes Schedule 6, it’s still good for them to hear from you.

The clause-by-clause deliberations on amendments started this morning at 9:00 a.m. and are being livestreamed.

The Canadian Environmental Law Association did a legal analysis last evening.

Thank you for your support on this critical issue. We have been doing everything possible to avert disaster during this watershed moment.

Sincerely,

P.S. It’s incumbent on us all to exercise our civic right and ask our MPPs to speak out against Schedule 6 and vote against it at third reading on Monday.
