Save the Date for the 2022 Annual Gathering

Mark your calendars and plan to attend Ontario Nature's 91st Annual Gathering! Scheduled for the weekend of June 10 to June 12, the Annual Gathering will be held in Sudbury and is planned to be a return to the in-person format we all enjoyed before the pandemic put the event on hold. The weekend will feature a suite of engaging workshops and excursions to local nature hotspots, as well as numerous opportunities for everyone to get re-acquainted. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.

Nominate Your Nature Hero for a Conservation Award

Is there a person or group who inspired you with their work this year? If so, please nominate them for an Ontario Nature Conservation Award. These annual awards recognize excellence by honouring individuals, groups, government agencies and corporations that have dedicated themselves to conserving Ontario's wildlife and wild spaces. The deadline for nominations is March 25, 2022. Visit our website for more information on how to submit your nomination.

Calling All Winter Birders

All bird lovers are invited to celebrate the 122nd anniversary of the Christmas Bird Count by joining one of the many counts happening this holiday season. It's a great way to explore nature while collecting important data on our feathered friends. Ontario Nature groups are organizing dozens of counts across the province from December 14 to January 5. Visit the Ontario Nature website to find a count near you. For a comprehensive list of counts happening across Canada, visit the Birds Canada website.

Winter Magazine Now Available

The winter issue of ON Nature, Ontario Nature's award-winning quarterly publication, is now available. In it, you can explore Ontario's wildlife and wilderness by reading about the precipitous decline of Canada jays in Algonquin Park, how Indigenous artisans are keeping an ancient craft alive, and why Ontario's wetlands must be protected. ON Nature is a member-supported magazine. For just $50 per year, you can help fund Ontario Nature's work protecting wild species and wild spaces, and receive a print copy of the magazine.

Stand Up for Ontario's Species at Risk

The November 2021 report of the Auditor General of Ontario, Protecting and Recovering Species at Risk, shows that our provincial government has abdicated its responsibility to protect and recover Ontario's more than 240 species at risk. Please join Ontario Nature in demanding better from our political leaders and representatives, and share this important message with others. Let our leaders know you want an action plan for recovering species at risk, with clear commitments to address the government's inexcusable record to date. Your voice matters.
